The New School Oyster Midden, at NYC's The New School for Liberal Arts Located at: The New School Courtyard on 66 West, 12th St New York City (front Garden) this innovative project merges public art, environmental awareness and a slice of New York's history and will be on display this Winter and Spring and was created by Haseltine in conjunction with Thanks to The New School, Oyster Gardens of NYC class Fall 2008 for the hard work and inspiration! Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts, the four-year undergraduate division of The New School, is one of the newest and fastest-growing urban liberal arts schools in the country, providing the advantages of an intimate college with all the resources of a major university in New York City.

Representative to the  Global Coral Reef Alliance,  at United Nations for Sustainable Island Development partnership  with the UN Commission on Sustainable Development Conference or "CSD" www.un.org/esa/sustdev/csd/csd13/csd13.htm - Haseltine is also also currently creating reef restoration designs for coral and oysters.  Including some novel new concepts for floating island reefs which have the potential to improve aquaculture and aquatic biodiversity in areas where it is now being depleted.

Lecture: The Ultimate Oyster Reef for New York City: Mara Haseltine will give talk for "Green Renter" series at Green Arts Energy and Education Center Solar1 about her artistic quest to design to the ultimate oyster reef for the 'New York City Oyster'.  Haseltine will discuss how she has worked with a team marine biologists and ecologists to experiment and create the first solar powered oyster reef in New York City this past June as well as reef designs that combine science/technology and traditional methodology to create oyster reef habitat .  When implemented on a large scale oyster reefs have the potential to filter the 27 billions tons of wastewater dumped into NYC annually and will bring back biodiversity to the region which has not been seen since before the Industrial Revolution. http://www.solar1.org

"Estrogen Tales: The Untold Story of Nine Molecules and How They Bonded...," is a collection of silk-screens and other works created by Haseltine and inspired by the research of medicinal chemist Dr. Hyun K. Kim on molecular improvements to contraception and women's health.  The work is a celebration of  Dr. Kim's discoveries  which are prime examples of "science in plain site" which have incredible potential to improve women's health but have never been developed commercially, and stand with many other promising discoveries that could benefit the lives of women in particular, and on a broader scale the environment.

Mara Haseltine was guest artist at "BioRock Workshop" in Lombock, Indonesia. A ten day hands on workshop that teaches a unique mehod of coral reef restoration, through mineral accretion. Mara plans to use this technology to help design oyster reefs here in New York City's surrounding waters, the oyster would filter water and create marine animal habitates for indengionious speciesScale.
