Exhibition during French Year of the Sea and UNOC’3 at Villefranche Citadelle

The Institut de la Mer and its supervisory bodies are actively involved in the French Year of the Sea and UNOC’3. As at the One Ocean Science Congress, they will take part in scientific exchanges and associated events.

The « Sciences-sur-Mer » Festival (7–13 June, Villefranche-sur-Mer) will strengthen the link between science and society by offering opportunities for dialogue among stakeholders and welcoming both the general public and schoolchildren. In conjunction, with Sorbonne University, CRNS, and Institute de la Mer de Villefrance Sur Mer among others.

Mara G Haseltine will be displaying at the ancient Citadel in the heart of Villefrance Sur Mer for this prestigious and important event.  She will showcase Blueprints to Heal the Planet: 1 Coral Reefs, a smaller adaptation of her exhibit at The New York Academy of Sciences, both the “Plankton Pod” model-maquette, a miniature version of “The Rococo Cocco” reef alongside original prototypes in ceramics fabricated in Cuba.

All the work demonstrates sustainable innovative reef restoration techniques that do not utilize plastic or concrete.  Blending art and science with structures inspired by the microscopic world of plankton.
